Job Summary and Responsibilities
Responsible for writing and production of CEO communications materials at Hebrew SeniorLife that will support the business goals of HSL and its Development, Public Affairs and Research agenda. Will write and produce a broad range of communications materials designed to advance HSL s market leadership; develop HSL s brand; communicate HSL s strategic objectives, and build thought leadership platform of CEO. Work under the direction of the VP, Marketing & Communications, who has responsibility for the Executive Communications Strategy. Consult and collaborate with VP Development, Director, Research Philanthropy, and external Public Affairs consultants on message content.
Requires close working relationship with CEO and on-site participation in CEO leadership calls and meetings to identify key messages and priorities. Attend a regular number of CEO speeches and presentations to gather additional key messages and personalization. Must develop and maintain a working knowledge of HSL s organizational goals, brand promise, strategies and goals, products and services, as well as external legislative issues and customer needs, and apply that knowledge in developing communications deliverables.

III. Position Responsibilities:
CEO External Communications:
CEO Leadership Documents (rapid response position statements, blog posts, white papers, magazine-length articles and bylined articles)
Communication to Volunteer Leaders (HSL Leadership e-newsletter, occasional omnibus letters to HSL Board)
Speeches and PowerPoint presentations (at Community, Donor, and Board and Committee events)
In all cases:
o Work with CEO directly to evaluate specific opportunity, develop content proposals and related outlines
o Conduct appropriate research, both internally and externally to ensure content is timely, engaging, relevant and accurate.
o Write, develop, proof, draft and prepare final documents
o Write and organize Powerpoint charts and speaking points
o Research and fact-checking
o Ensure material conforms to HSL branding and style guidelines
o Distribute completed materials with appropriate other parts of HSL to ensure CEO voice and vision are understood and further promulgated
o Work with Director, Marketing Communications, to identify opportunities for repurposing existing content for additional vehicles and edit the materials further for the agreed upon use of the content.
CEO Leadership Correspondence:
Letters and e-mails that support the CEO s goals for Development, Public Affairs and Research
Occasional letters to HSL employees and HSL residents and their families
o Develop content in collaboration with CEO, Major Gift Officers, Director, Research Philanthropy, and external Public Affairs consultants
o Write and edit letters and e-mails for approval by CEO
o All final fact checking, proofing, signature, production and mailing to be completed by appropriate administrative support in Development, Research or Office of the CEO
IV. Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree and 15+ years directly related experience in a corporation, health care organization, university setting, or in a political campaign
Must be able to work on-site at HSL on a varied schedule to meet the needs of the CEO, and able to travel by car to various CEO presentations in the Boston area
Excellent skills in the newest version of PowerPoint and MS Word, including ability to manipulate image and photo files and basic graphics in these applications
Ability to articulate HSL s mission, traditions and excellence with enthusiasm, energy, and the desire to compel others to action through the CEO s materials
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with and command the respect and confidence of the CEO and senior HSL administrators, trustees and volunteers
Sound judgment, thoughtfulness, attention to detail; the ability to think strategically, and strong work ethic
Tact; thoughtfulness; awareness of strategic challenges in managing donor and political relationships
Possess the ability to think at the strategic and conceptual level and act, simultaneously, as a highly-effective and productive individual contributor.
Must be able to rapidly solve problems, recognize potential issues and make decisions throughout a project that balance the need to meet a deadline and still meet the original requirements of the project.

V. Physical Requirements:
English as a first language
Ability to travel between HSL sites and external local venues to participate in CEO meetings and speeches. Occasional weekends as required
10% local travel required.
