Job Description
The Residential Referral Coordinator, M-F, 10:00am-6:00pm, serves as the first point of contact for anyone interested in accessing McLean Hospital programs and services. As such, the Residential Referral Coordinator must create a warm, professional lasting first impression of McLean Hospital.
The Residential Referral Coordinator s primary responsibility is to assist anyone wanting access to McLean Hospital programs/services, yet unsure of the best fit . Inquiries may come from professionals, potential patients, family members, or other third parties. The navigator gathers information on the potential patient s needs, recommends the most appropriate potential program(s) and directs parties to the correct McLean Hospital entry point(s) the first time.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain in-depth, detailed knowledge of all McLean programs/services, current program features, admission and exclusionary criteria, and insurance/financial parameters.
Develop and maintain close working relationship with residential program leadership
Gather preliminary demographic, clinical, risk, insurance/financial information on each prospective patient, and enter to database.
Make recommendations about most appropriate care setting, generally one of the following:
o McLean program(s) with best potential fit
o Refer prospective patients with emergent needs to local emergency rooms, crisis centers, or the McLean Clinical Evaluation Center
o Provide information about external program options, if known, when McLean is not the best fit.
Set basic expectations about the admissions process and communication timeframes. Connect inquirer with appropriate McLean program/staff.
Follow up as appropriate to provide closure and encourage future McLean inquiries.
Maintain supportive, nurturing presence in high volume environment
Identify customer service improvement opportunities, and make recommendations on enhancing seamless customer service and access to McLean programs.
Optimize use of technology (database, phone, e-mail)
Develop ongoing relationships as appropriate with clinical referrers.
Attend relevant admissions, marketing, and clinical program meetings.
Cross-trained for Intake / Inpatient Admissions
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Ability to rapidly assess clinical needs.
Excellent writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively in within a rapidly changing system of care.
Ease and agility with information technology (i.e. databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and patient registration systems).
Must possess computer skills in order to use a variety of electronic systems to access and maintain personal employment-related data and satisfy required annual trainings

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Masters level (or higher) clinician with in-depth knowledge of McLean programs.
Independent licensure required
Minimum of three years post masters experience strongly preferred.
Previous experience in psychiatric settings such as residential treatment, and responsibility related to admissions/intake strongly preferred.
Understanding of clinical processes including psychiatric assessment, triage and treatment planning.
Familiarity with community resources, major insurances, and service delivery systems.
Experience working with multidisciplinary staff, both within a health system and the community at large.
Conditions of Employment
Employment at McLean Hospital is contingent upon a successful CORI (Criminal Background Check), National Background Check and clearance from the Occupational Health Department.
