Harvard Business School s Division of Research and Faculty Development (the Division) seeks an experienced information technology professional to serve as the point person for administrative technology.
Reporting to the Managing Director, Business Operations (MD), the Senior Project Manager will partner with managers in the Division and the School s Information Technology Group (ITG) to ensure the effective development, implementation, and support of technology solutions that meet the day-to-day operational needs of the Division and serve a wide range of faculty and staff constituents. Job duties fall into two broad areas:
1) Manage the Division s portfolio of software applications
Understand the Division s current software applications and business needs and partner with business owners and ITG to identify opportunities to improve existing applications or implement new ones.
Work closely with the MD and senior leadership to establish project priorities and partner effectively with ITG and with business owners at all stages of IT projects, serving as a project manager for the Division s deliverables.
Collaborate with ITG to conduct needs assessments for off-the-shelf software, identifying possible solutions, performing cost/benefit analysis; outlining short- and long-term implications; and presenting recommendations.
Work with Division colleagues to write business requirements. Help business owners prioritize functionality and make tradeoffs between functionality and resources.
Partner with business owners to understand the impact an application will have on existing business processes; help redesign business processes, as needed.
Work with project stakeholders to determine user acceptance testing, deployment, training, and communication plans for application releases.
Assist faculty and staff in leveraging Division-sponsored software in their day-to-day work.
Assist with escalation and resolution process for production software problems, ensuring appropriate troubleshooting and coordinating communication as necessary.
2) Ensure the Division has the right technology tools and resources in place and that staff have the support they need to use them.
Ensure the Division has the appropriate data, data reporting, and systems needed for business analysis and metrics.
Manage the Division s portfolio of websites and ShareSites, partnering with business owners, ITG, and Marketing & Communications as needed to develop and maintain individual sites.
Participate in the development and management of the Division s IT budget, including preparing submissions for the School s IT resource allocation committee and annual budget process.
Identify emerging technology needs across the organization and ensure those needs are captured in the Division s planning processes.
Stay current in office productivity and work group computing technologies offered by ITG.
Coordinate technology upgrades and conversions, representing the Division s user base in School-wide implementation planning and execution.
Ensure that desktop support needs of Division staff are being met.
Manage the Division s information security awareness and compliance program.
Assist in the development of IT training plans and IT skills assessment methodologies.
Other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications BA/BS or equivalent required. Five or more years of experience implementing IT projects. Excellent project management and analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into business requirements. Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Customer-service orientation. Able to interact well with a diverse range of constituents; both technical and non-technical. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills necessary. Instills confidence and can effectively lead meetings (e.g., brainstorming sessions, problem-solving sessions). Strong attention to detail required. Experience with Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint and Microsoft Project.

It is the largest administrative unit at HBS with over 225 full-time and part-time staff, including 75 core staff and 150 faculty research, teaching, and administrative support staff.
