Storage technologies such as flash and RAM that provide orders of magnitude performance improvements and eliminate the penalty for random seeks are finally economically feasible. Cloud computing s pay-as-you-go economic model introduces opportunities and demands for highly elastic scaling. The market is increasingly pushing for analytic systems that not only address large-scale ad hoc queries but that can also handle real-time updating and high-volume, low-latency querying on enormous operational data stores. The fundamental data structures and algorithms for databases must change yet again to exploit and accommodate this new landscape.

IBM Netezza is responding by creating the next-generation data warehousing solution. We believe in utilizing every advantage possible through both hardware and software to build finely balanced systems that deliver the very best price/performance on huge data, with no fat and no waste. Our use of custom hardware and balanced system design to blow through the I/O bottleneck revolutionized the industry, and we intend to do it again.

As an IBM Software Developer, you'll use the latest tools and technologies available to deliver state-of-the-art software. You'll be responsible for ensuring that company software components are expertly designed, tested, debugged, verified, and ready for integration into IBM's best-of-breed solutions that help organizations improve their business outcomes in the global marketplace. Will you join us?

Ideal candidates will have coursework or job experience with a mix of database internals, operating systems, distributed computing, performance optimization, and system software. C++ systems programming is what we do, and we look for related experience in OS or compiler courses, summer jobs, etc. Overall, a demonstrated interest in building cool technology is what we'd like to see.
