Scientific training with real world impact

Imagine determining the mechanism of action of covalent inhibitors to bacterial genes involved in fatty acid synthesis or assessing and imaging soluble biomarkers involved in drug-induced kidney toxicity. Through the scientific intern program at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), your contribution to the search for new disease therapies can begin before you graduate. Our program is designed to introduce talented students to drug discovery and to train them in experimental work in this area.

As an intern, you will have an opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of a dedicated NIBR research mentor building on your existing research experiences. You will have a chance to learn new experimental protocols and techniques; gain experience in designing and executing experiments; and analyze the data you produce. You will also participate in journal clubs, weekly seminars and project discussion in group meetings. Moreover, you will have an opportunity to interact with other interns during social outings.

Summer Internship Chemistry

NIBR is seeking Summer Scientific Interns to provide organic chemistry support for drug discovery laboratories at our Cambridge, MA facility. Students will gain experience around performing organic synthesis experiments and purification procedures using standard organic chemistry laboratory techniques or new methods from literature to obtain pure, characterized compounds for biological evaluation. Minimum requirements To be eligible for a Summer Scientific Internship candidates should be currently enrolled in a Chemistry major and have completed their undergraduate Sophomore year (by June 2012). Candidates should have taken at least one semester of organic chemistry and one semester of organic chemistry laboratory by the start of the intern program. All interns must have current authorization to work for any employer in the United States. Candidates with hands-on skills in the above mentioned skills are highly competitive. PhD, MD level candidates will not qualify.
