JOB DESCRIPTION

Position performs civil engineering site plan and project design, redesign, alteration and modification, costing and estimating of proposed, new or existing public construction projects. Ensures specific engineering requirements are met and performs other duties as required or assigned following metods and procedures as established by department, local state and Federal agencies. 

The position is responsible for the general supervision of one (1) full-time employee, and is responsible for training, assigning, assisting, reviewing, and checking the work of employee. Employee may have access to some departmental confidential information.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs civil engineering site plan and project design, redesign, alteration and modification, costing and estimating of proposed, new or existing public construction projects.
  • Ensures specific engineering requirements are met and performs other duties as required or assigned following methods and procedures as established by department, local, state and Federal agencies. Employee works under the general direction of the City Engineer.
  • Employee prioritizes and performs work with substantial independence and responsibility.
  • Instructions for new assignments or special projects usually consist of statements of desired objectives, deadlines and priorities.
  • Technical and policy problems or changes in procedures are discussed with supervisor.
  • Maintains current knowledge of profession through peer association, attendance at seminars, meetings, and other events.
  • Reviews and comments on subdivision, commercial and residential site plan, Conservation Commission, sewer and drain connection, road opening, grant of location, sewer extension, and scenic road applications to ensure compliance with applicable City, State, and Federal ordinances, rules, regulations, city specifications and approved engineering methods.
  • Prepares, reviews and disseminates a wide variety of reports, analyses documents, records as related to engineering projects.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the City Engineer or his/her designee per the Division's Organization Chart.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and seven to ten (7-10) years related municipal engineering experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Candidate must have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  • A candidate for this position must be registered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Professional Civil Engineer.
