The Program assistant will be responsible for supporting Public Health programming in all areas and provide coordination of Medical Reserve Corpsvolunteers.

This position reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Health and Human Services.

This position may sometimes require flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

  • Works as the Newton Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) coordinator.
  • Recruits and on-boards MRC volunteers.
  • Schedules and attends MRC trainings.
  • Schedules and attends MRC volunteer opportunities.
  • Sends updates to and corresponds with MRC volunteers.
  • Participates in local and regional MRC related planning meetings.
  • Assists with statewide MRC deliverables.
  • Develops and updates MRC related emergency plans.
  • Completes MRC related reporting.
  • Assists in planning, promoting and executing public health programs.
  • Assists in departmental communication and outreach activities.
  • Completes other Health and Human Services related work as assigned by supervisor or designee.
  • Participates in team meetings and planning sessions.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Some graduate work preferred.
  • Education and/or experience in at least some public health core areas.
  • Office administration abilities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of social media and use for professional communication.
