JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of water systems, including work on water mains and service lines, water gates, valves, hydrants and pumping stations. Additional responsibility, as needed, for the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lays and connects service pipes with street mains and meters. May require the use of equipment such as jack hamd other assorted toolsmers, compactors, pick, shovel an
  • Responsible for the tappings of water mians to make connections. Work will include testing for leaks, locating and repairing same, installation of service materials of various types from the main to the water meter plumbing, main line repair work, including gate valve operation as well as repair and installation of associated bends and fittings
  • Installs, replaces and repairs fire hydrants
  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the safe and efficient delivery of potable water to the City's residents. May include maintenance of reservoir systems, pumping stations and storage facilities
  • Transport men to and from jobs
  • May supervise assigned helpers in less skilled aspects of work performed
  • Available for snow plowing and sanding operations as needed
  • Performs similar or related duties as required by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS

  • A candidate for this position should have a High School Diploma or equivalent; one to three (1-3) years of experience in operating heavy trucks and equipment, and construction work; or an equivalent combination of education or experience
  • A candidate for this position must possess a valid Class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License. A candidate for this position must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
  • Confined Space Entry Certification
