Payroll Coordinator - Tufts Support Services

Tufts SupportServices (TSS) at Tufts University delivers administrative services to schoolsand central units across the university's three campuses. Administrative activities that are commonacross the many central divisions and schools have been consolidated in ashared services center, allowing expert teams to provide exemplaryadministrative support to faculty and staff. TSS provides support for transactional tasks in human resources, payroll,finance, and information technology, along with professional services for budgetingand other functions, operating under a governance model that includes servicelevel agreements. TSS iscustomer-focused and strives for continuous improvement and high customersatisfaction.
Payroll andData Administration manages the day-to-day administration and maintenance ofemployee job and personal data, including establishing employee records for newhires, conducting transactions for changes as a result of promotions,transfers, status changes, employee separations, personal life events, and thecollection and approval of time and attendance data. Payroll specialists managepayroll for all university employees, including overseeing the collection andapproval of time and attendance data, processing payroll data, processingbenefits, tax, and other deductions, distributing pay, producing reports andensuring regulatory compliance.
The PayrollCoordinator enters and maintains accurate employee/payroll records in the HRInformation System (PeopleSoft) as well as checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance withestablished standards, maintaining time and attendance records, entering newhires into the payroll system, posting changes in pay and tax status, andmiscellaneous changes. Responsible for employee Masterfile accuracy,payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payrolldeductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processingterminations in compliance withuniversity policies and federal and state employment laws. Data input or change requests may besubmitted on Personnel Action Forms (PAF), electronic workflow (ePAF), employeetimesheets, supporting documentation, or through Employee Self-Service. The Payroll Coordinator reviews forms andpaperwork for completeness and accuracy, following up on missing or inaccurateinformation or approvals, and enters new data or makes changes in the system.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in payroll processing environment.
- Experience with PeopleSoft HR suite or equivalent HR-ERP or payroll system.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent customer service orientation and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Aptitude for using technology.
- Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, problem-solve and research thoroughly, contribute to peer learning and collaborate in a team environment.
- Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some night and weekend commitments, including participation in the administrator-on-call rotation, required.
